Art Director

Job description

Can you turn bold ideas into visuals that feel almost inevitable and still surprise everyone in the room?

Grip is building the infrastructure for enterprise content production: a visual programming platform that turns brand systems into scalable, production-grade output. As an Art Director, you move beyond campaigns and static guidelines. You translate brand intent into systems that generate thousands of on-brand assets across channels, markets, and formats.

This role sits at the intersection of creative direction and system design. You will define how brands behave in automated environments—codifying visual rules, constraints, and patterns so they can be executed consistently through AI-driven workflows. The shift is from designing assets to designing how assets are produced.

What You Will Do

1. Define Visual Systems for Scale

  • Translate brand guidelines into structured, repeatable design systems that can operate inside Grip’s platform

  • Define rules such as layout behavior, logo usage, typography scaling, and image composition as constraints—not suggestions

  • Build modular frameworks that support thousands of variations without degrading visual quality

2. Direct Production-Grade Creative Output

  • Own the visual quality of automated outputs across campaigns, formats and regions

  • Review and refine outputs generated by AI workflows, ensuring they meet brand and creative standards

  • Collaborate with engineers and FDEs to improve how creative intent is executed in production systems

3. Turn Creative Intent into Logic

  • Work closely with technical teams to translate design decisions into system behavior (e.g., “safe zones” → layout constraints, “brand tone” → visual patterns)

  • Identify repeatable patterns in design workflows and convert them into scalable automation logic

  • Contribute to “Art Direction as Code”—where creative decisions are embedded into pipelines

4. Collaborate Across Enterprise Stakeholders

  • Partner with client creative teams, brand managers, and marketers to align on systemized creative approaches

  • Guide stakeholders from subjective feedback to structured, system-ready decisions

  • Balance creative ambition with production constraints, timelines, and scale requirements

Job requirements

Who You Are:

  • A strong background in CGI art direction, with hands-on understanding of 3D pipelines, virtual production, digital lighting and AI image generation.

  • A strong portfolio spanning campaigns, content, film, or immersive experiences that demonstrates taste, originality and craft.

  • Strong director of photography skills, with a deep understanding of cinematography principles including lighting design, framing, lens language, color science and visual mood, across both physical and digital environments.

  • Proven experience working with global brands or complex stakeholder environments.

  • A deep understanding of aesthetics, performance-driven content and visual communication.

  • The ability to turn abstract strategy into clear, compelling creative ideas that teams can execute.

  • Experience working with clients and brands based in Asia is a plus.

Why Join Grip?

The Platform Position

Grip is building infrastructure for enterprise creative production—where brand systems are executed through software, not manually recreated.

The Market Timing

Enterprise demand for high-volume, on-brand content is accelerating. AI enables generation, but without structured art direction, output breaks. This role defines that structure.

The Technical Moat

Grip combines visual programming, AI workflow orchestration, and multi-tenant architecture (TypeScript, Python, Elixir, C#) to deliver production-grade creative at scale.

The Work

You define how global brands scale visually—turning creative intent into systems that produce consistent, high-quality output across every touchpoint.
